I’ve been thinking about taking my 5-year-old out fishing for the first time, but honestly, I have no clue where to start. I was at the park and saw some people fishing, and it just looked so fun. I want to share that with my kid, but I wonder what kind of rod or bait we should get. Are those small kids’ rods decent? Any advice on what to do on our first outing would really help since I’m not the most outdoorsy parent.

Couple of things, buddy. Watch hooks and keep em safe, kids grab everything. Bring snacks and sunscreen, they'll tap out fast if they're hungry or burnt. Keep it short and fun, don't sweat catching a monster, just enjoy the time with your kid

I took my boy out when he was six, and he spent more time chasing grasshoppers than watching his bobber. He did hook my hat once though, guess that counts as his first catch
