I started with one rangefinder and ended up with two. One is set up for hunting and the other for longer precision work. They behave differently and give me different data depending on what I am doing. My wife asked why I needed two devices that measure distance and I tried to explain it and realized I did not have a simple answer that would make sense outside of this hobby.

One measures distance, the other measures how far down the rabbit hole you’ve gone.

I once tried to explain how some gear just sort of overlaps, and I got that exact same blank stare. It's one of those things that makes perfect sense when it's all in your head but then you try to say it out loud and suddenly, it's just gone.

Exactly, once you say it out loud, hobby logic collapses into pure confusion and blank stares.

I've had that exact same chat before and when you say it out loud, you realize how specific it sounds to other people. It makes perfect sense in our world but to anyone outside, not so much.
