Lessons learned at the range

One range trip taught me never to forget ear pro again, ringing ears for hours isn't fun. Another time I learned bag zippers can betray you, spilling ammo everywhere. Between equipment fails and operator errors, each session teaches something new. What's the funniest or most humbling lesson you've picked up while burning powder at the range?

One time, I was trying to show off with a new rifle. After meticulously setting up my bipod and getting the perfect sight picture, I took my shot and completely missed the paper. Turns out I never unlocked the legs and this humbled me right there on the spot :)

Mine was realizing my $15 mag holder was totally backwards. I spent a whole mag change session fumbling with the mag release button facing my gut, it looked like a newborn giraffe trying to operate a complex machine...so humbling

Oh man, that's brutal, there is nothing like missing the entire paper to bring you back down to earth. At least you figured it out quick. We've all had those 'what an idiot' moments, right?

A newborn giraffe...that's perfect! I'm dying picturing that. Those little gear mistakes hit different when you realize how long you've been doing it wrong, at least it makes a good story now

Hot brass always finds its way down my shirt, especially at the range. I even burned my neck and pride that one time

Having been burned a few times by hot brass, I now stick with collared shirts, buttoned to the top.

A few months back I was at the range, showing it to a cousin. We were in the gallery area, and I was point out the features to my cousin; timers, pulleys, etc. Inside the range was a young couple. The boyfriend was showing the girl how to shoot a semi-auto pistol, and she was dressed in a low cut tank top with a fair amount of cleavage showing. I remarked to my cousin that a tank top and semi-autos don't mix well, due to hot brass flying around.

No sooner had I said that when she fired a round and immediately started hopping up and down. Fortunately, she kept the gun downrange when she dropped it on the table, and she kept jumping until the brass came out of the bottom of her top.

It made me wonder if she's every going to go shooting again.
